The Sub-Zero door will not close fix, and what to check first
A Sub-Zero door that drops, swings open or needs a shove has one of three causes: a hinge that has worn, a closer cam that no longer pulls the last inch, or a custom panel heavier than the door was engineered to carry. Sub-Zero publishes a hard maximum panel weight for every model, and on an integrated cabinet in a Manhattan kitchen the panel is the first thing worth weighing.
Sub-Zero door drops: the panel is the first suspect
This is the diagnosis most often missed, and in this market it is the most common. Sub-Zero states a maximum custom panel weight for each model: 50 lb on most Classic models, 75 lb on the CL3650R(ID), CL3650RG, CL3650F and CL3050W, and 13 lb for a grille panel. Designer Series columns run from 45 lb on an 18 inch to 75 lb on a 30 or 36 inch, and a drawer panel is 15 lb.
Those are engineering limits, not suggestions. A joiner who made a beautiful panel in solid walnut rather than a veneered core can exceed them without anyone weighing it, and the door then carries that load on its hinges every day. Sub-Zero door out of alignment
Alignment is visible before it is a fault. Stand square to the cabinet and look at the reveal, the gap between the door and the cabinetry around it. It should be even top to bottom and side to side. A reveal that is tight at the bottom and open at the top is a door that has dropped.
That is also the point at which the seal stops closing along the top edge, which is why these two symptoms arrive together and get treated as one problem. Correcting the alignment fixes the seal. Replacing the gasket on a dropped door does not.
Sub-Zero door swings open instead of self-closing
A Sub-Zero door is designed to pull itself shut over the last part of its travel. That action comes from a closer cam at the base of the door, which uses the door’s own weight to draw it closed. When the cam wears, the door stops short and sits fractionally open.
It is a distinctive symptom: the door closes but does not latch itself home, and you find it ajar later with the door alarm sounding. That is the closer cam rather than the hinge, and the two are frequently confused.

Sub-Zero built-in doors have adjustment provision, and the exact method varies by series and generation. Your model’s documentation is the correct source for the procedure, because a sequence from another model may do nothing or may do something you did not intend. What is worth knowing beforehand is that adjustment corrects geometry; it does not correct an overweight panel, which will pull the door back out of true within weeks.

The order that works: weigh or estimate the panel first, check the reveal for evenness, test the seal with a bill along each edge, then lift gently at the handle end to feel for hinge play. That sequence separates a worn hinge from a heavy panel from a tired cam before anything is unbolted.
Sub-Zero self closing door not working
Almost always the closer cam. Test it by opening the door about four inches and letting go on a level floor: it should draw itself shut. If it hangs where you left it, the cam is worn. On a genuinely out-of-level floor, which is common in older Manhattan buildings, the same symptom appears with a perfectly good cam, so check the floor before ordering the part.
Sub-Zero door sagging
Lift the door gently at the handle end with it open. Movement you can feel is hinge wear or a loosened hinge fixing. No movement, but a visibly uneven reveal, points at the panel load or the cabinet’s own installation rather than at the hinge.

Worth mentioning if it applies, because it changes the diagnosis entirely. If the door started misbehaving after a kitchen refit, a new panel, or work on the surrounding joinery, the cabinet may have been racked in its opening or the panel changed. That is a joinery correction and adjusting the door alone will not hold it.

One published figure is useful here. A Designer Series door carrying a 3/4 inch panel opens to a maximum of 105 degrees, and a 90 degree door stop is available as an option to reduce interference. A door being opened hard against an adjacent wall or island past its intended travel is being stressed at the hinge every time.
